With the Postgraduate Diploma in Education Programme, participants will be distinguished by their ability to critically apply theory and research and to understand the complex dimensions of current educational issues, practices and/or policies in particular contexts. They will reflect on research and exhibit techniques in analysis, synthesis and critical evaluation of teaching and learning. Individuals will gain advanced skills and knowledge for a variety of educational settings. This graduate course extends their career prospects into new and exciting areas as it is designed to meet the needs of trainers and teachers in education, community, government and industry. It builds on their qualifications or experience – preparing them for higher roles.  This is the ideal self-paced distance learning course for Professional Development aimed at individuals in the field of Education. They’ll gain the confidence and skill-set needed to lead educational institutions or organizations in education.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will be equipped with the skills to:

  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of theory and practice within the field of education
  • Design assessment tools and interpret data to reflect on the impact of teaching

MODULES COVERED

1. Educational Philosophies: An Overview
The module comprises an overview of the various schools of thought pertinent to the field of education. Learners will work out a personal approach to the theory and practice of education through a reflection of their own personal beliefs, teaching styles and perspectives.

2. Psychology of Learning: Lessons from Cognitive Psychology
The module deals on the principles of educational psychology and their applications to solve problems. It examines the theoretical and applied aspects of learning motivation, personality, classroom management, culture and evaluation of the learning outcome.

3. Educational Technology: The 21st Century Classroom
This module will integrate the beneficial uses of technology by empowering educators to implement it in their practice in order to provide authentic learning experiences for students.

4. Classroom Dynamics and Behaviour Management
This module provides students with a wide range of theories and practices related to the management, motivation and sustenance of professional control involved in the education of children and adolescents.  It focuses on the application of behaviour management for classroom control and supervision.

5. Educational Research: Designs and Procedures
The module introduces methods of scientific work and techniques of research reporting: Sampling, collecting and organising data, analysis, results, interpretation and research reporting. Learners will create an action research, a form of self-reflective systematic inquiry by practitioners.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

-Learners should possess a high level of motivation and self-discipline
-Learners should be proficient in the English language
-Learners should possess at least 6 years of professional working experience in any field, and/or has completed high school
-Learners must possess basic smartphone or computer operating knowledge and skills

ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING

Personalised exercises, assignments and/or quizzes are utilized throughout the course/programme to measure progress in learning. such comprehensive assessment procedure is characterized by being diagnostic, formative (intervention-oriented), and summative

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

100% completion of courses and assessment therein is required to be able to get certified in the said course and/or programme

The grading system is defined as follows:

Pass:  
Higher Distinction : 90-100%
Distinction : 80-89%
First Division : 70-79%
Second Division : 60-69%
Satisfactory : 50-59%
Fail:  
Unsatisfactory : 49 % and below
